Area Leader: Samantha Evers
Hello! My name is Samantha, but everyone calls me Sammi! I’m extremely excited to be the area leader for Fukuoka West this year. I’m from New Orleans, USA and I’ve been living in Fukuoka for almost 2 years now!
I studied some Japanese in college and I’ve been attending a Japanese class at my local community center for the past year! I love exploring Fukuoka City and going on trips around Kyushu. There’s always something new and exciting just waiting to be found!
Back in America, I have 4 cats. I’ve always loved animals, so it’s hard to be without them while I’m living in Japan. Luckily, Japan has a plethora of animal cafes to choose from! Currently, I’m on a mission to find the best cat cafe in Fukuoka!
I’m looking forward to everyone coming together, let’s create some lifelong memories!
Area Introduction:
Welcome to Fukuoka West! Here we have the best of both worlds, the bustling and vibrant downtown city life coupled with the scenic, laid-back vibes of the countryside. Our area stretches from the heart of Fukuoka City (Tenjin) until the border with Saga Prefecture to the West in Itoshima.
In Fukuoka West we have many famous landmarks and popular tourist spots! Most notably, there’s the PayPay Dome, where you can catch a baseball game and cheer for Fukuoka’s home team, the SoftBank Hawks! Nearby, there’s also Fukuoka Tower, the tallest seaside tower in Japan! There you can take an elevator to the top and enjoy a full 360° view of the city. Also, there’s Ohori Park which is located next to the Fukuoka Castle Ruins. In this area, the annual Cherry Blossom Festival is held around spring each year!
Our area is also quite well known for our beaches! Right downtown we have Momochi Seaside Park, which has many restaurants and recreational activities nearby. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, you can take a 10 minute ferry ride to Nokonoshima! There are several beaches on the island but there is also a campground with bungalows to rent! Keya Beach is another popular beach in Itoshima City. This beach is known for its gentle waves and clear waters. It’s also home to the annual outdoor music festival Sunset Live!
