Area Leader for 2024 - 2025: Sally So
Hello! I’m Sally. I’m from the country of maple syrup and poutine, aka Canada, the Great White North. I traded my snow boots for rain boots in 2023 when I moved across the world to embark on my JET journey. The humidity takes some getting used to, but barring that, Fukuoka has truly become a home away from home.
I am an art & design aficionado, a photography enthusiast, a foodie, and a wanderlust. In my free time, when I'm not travelling, you’ll likely find me working away on my creative projects at a local cafe, stuffing my face at a local eatery, enjoying an exhibition at a local museum, or relaxing at a local onsen. I’m also somewhat of a language geek. Besides Japanese, I have been studying Korean, Chinese, and French for some time.
This is actually my tenth time setting foot in Japan and my third in Fukuoka, but despite that, this country and this city never cease to amaze me. There's always something new to do, to see, and to learn.
Our area, Fukuoka West, is home to many famous landmarks and attractions.
Here is a list of notable ones, curated by our former Area Leader Samantha
Evers:
• PayPay Dome, where you can catch a baseball game and cheer for Fukuoka’s home team, the SoftBank Hawks
• Fukuoka Tower, the tallest seaside tower in Japan, where you can take an elevator to the top and enjoy a full 360° view of the city
• Ohori Park & Fukuoka Castle Ruins area, where numerous festivals are held, including the annual Cherry Blossom Festival
•Momochi Seaside Park, a beach located right downtown, with many restaurants and recreational activities nearby
• Nokonoshima, an island accessible by ferry, where you can find more beaches, seasonal flowers, and a campground with bungalows to rent
• Keya Beach, a popular beach in Itoshima City known for its gentle waves and clear water, where the annual outdoor music festival Sunset Live is held
And the list goes on!
