Letter to the Newcomers

Congratulations!

Dear Incoming JET Participant,

Congratulations on your placement in Fukuoka Prefecture! On behalf of the Fukuoka JET team, we welcome you!

Fukuoka Prefecture is located in Southern Japan, the northernmost part of the island of Kyushu. Fukuoka Prefecture is a wide and varied prefecture, with Kitakyushu in the north to Omuta in the south, with many more cities and towns in between. Whether you want to enjoy a weekend hiking in the mountains, or take every chance you get to be in the city, you can enjoy both types of lifestyle in Fukuoka Prefecture. You should feel lucky to be placed here!

A month or so before departure, you will be contacted by your Prefectural Advisor (PA) and/or Contracting Organization (CO). They will give you information about your specific placement. From there, you will be able to make contact with your future coworkers, who can guide you through your time leading up to and during your stay on the JET Programme.

We are sure you are excited and have many questions before your departure. This site is full of pages that you may find helpful. For example:

  • ALT Job Type Information
  • CIR Job Type Information
  • What to Wear at Work
  • Living in Fukuoka
  • Fukuoka Area System

Should you have questions regarding matters such as Status of Residence, work visas, health insurance, or other general questions about the JET Programme, please refer to the JET Programme General Information Handbook (GIH).

We look forward to meeting you soon. Until then, enjoy your preparations leading up to your departure!

Warm regards,
The Fukuoka Prefectural Advisor Team
