**Disclaimer: This is a list of some of the third party options for sending money from Japanese bank accounts to foreign bank accounts. We provide this list for your convenience only, and these services are not in anyway affiliated with or endorsed by the Fukuoka JET Program. Research your options thoroughly to decide the service that best fits your needs.
Transfer Services
The three most popular methods of sending money overseas amongst Fukuoka JETs (in order of set-up time from longest to shortest) are GoRemit, Wise, and Japan Post Bank. Remittal services generally have lower fees, better security, and more favorable exchange rates than bank-based transfers, but they also have considerably longer and more involved set-up time. See more general information below about each service to help you decide which one works for you:

Currency Exchange
Airports, large banks, and hotels catering to tourists will provide these services for most currencies. You will need a form of photo ID (passport or Residence Card) handy for this process. Banks will tend to give you the best exchange rate, so planning ahead is advised.
