The subway system has three train lines that intersect with Japan Railways (JR) and Nishitetsu stations in Fukuoka. The three subway lines are the Kuko Line, the Hakozaki Line, and the Nanakuma Line.
Trains operate between 05:30 and 24:25 daily, leaving every four to ten minutes.
The Kuko Line runs from Meinohama (with service to Karatsu in Saga Prefecture) to Tenjin, Hakata, and Fukuoka Airport. If you take a train towards Karatsu, you will have to pay for an extra ticket as beyond Meinohama, the service changes to JR, not Fukuoka City Subway.
The Hakozaki Line runs from Nakasu-Kawabata to Kaizuka. The Yoshizuka Branch Office Building used for many ALT Meetings is on this line.
The Nanakuma Line, the newest of the three, connects Hashimoto and Tenjin-Minami. The transfer from Tenjin-Minami Station to Tenjin Station requires a 5-minute walk through the Tenjin Chikagai underground shopping mall. If you are travelling with a ticket, make sure to keep your ticket and use the green transfer turnstiles. You have two hours to complete your transfer.
There are various discount passes available with the subway system. If you will be travelling far distances on the subway, or use it frequently, you may want to consider purchasing discount passes.
