Study Abroad Scholarship

What is the FAJET Scholarship Fund?

Each year, the Fukuoka JET community raises money through a number of events and activities in order to provide a scholarship to send one senior high school student abroad for a homestay experience.

*New in 2023* To combat inflation and the currently-weak yen, the scholarship recipient will receive ¥300,000 (or the full amount of a program costing less than ¥300,000)!

Scholarship Application Materials

The application period for the 2024 Scholarship has officially closed. This page will be updated in Autumn 2024 with information about our most recent recipient.

Last year’s winner is a current 3rd year student from Genkai High School in Koga-shi. She studied abroad in London. Congratulations on winning the scholarship, and thank you again to all our applicants!

For the newest scholarship, English and Japanese versions of the application have been streamlined into one document. Despite this, portions of the application still must be completed by students and JTEs/NETs in English.

The application form, as well as promotional posters, are available for download below. This information will also be sent directly to Senior High School ALTs from the PAs. As different schools have different policies about advertisement, please make sure you have permission from your school or office before hanging posters.

Grants

FAJET would like to thank the United States JET Alumni Association (USJETAA) and the U.S. Embassy Tokyo for considering and selecting us to receive funding through their Micro-grant Initiative for Current American JETs for multiple iterations of our scholarship. It is large part due to their support that we are able to offer this great scholarship opportunity in a post-pandemic world.

2023 Award – $1,000 USD

2024 Award – $200 USD
