Each winter, FAJET organizes a charity concert to raise money for our scholarship fund. This scholarship provides one senior high school student in Fukuoka the opportunity to have a homestay experience in an English-speaking country. More information about the scholarship can be found here.
2023 Charity Concert – RISE UP! Kurume
On January 28th, Fukuoka AJET hosted our grandest event of the year—the 2023 Charity Concert! This was FAJET’s third annual Charity Concert, and it made a stunning comeback at RISE UP (Kurume City) as a bilingual, multicultural event after a two-year hiatus. All proceeds supported FAJET’s ¥300,000 Scholarship Fund, which FAJET awards yearly to one outstanding Japanese high school student from Fukuoka who will study English abroad.
Local JET and Japanese performers alike passionately prepared a one-of-a-kind show for this special event. Talents comprised of a baton-twirling breakdancer, hula dancers, Caribbean and Kurdish vocalists, and two show-stopping bands, including Iizuka-based J-pop band RATsinc. and Hakata-based Japanese rock band TK2G, whose members are well-known for performing at the Hakata Christmas Market. The event was entirely bilingual, featuring both English-speaking and Japanese-speaking emcees. Concertgoers travelled from all across Fukuoka to attend, with many JETs and local community members in attendance.
The emcees also hosted a fun game of “Around the World Trivia,” in which contestants competed to win New Zealand souvenirs. Other fundraising endeavors included a 50/50 raffle and a bake sale with delicious cookies made by a local high school in Asakura. This was a night not to be missed!
If you missed the Charity Concert this year, look forward to FAJET’s 2024 Charity Concert. With a mix of good company, top-notch entertainment, and benefits going to good cause, it will surely be a night to remember.
