Fukuoka AJET

What is FAJET?

AJET is the Association for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program. AJET is a volunteer organization made of JETs, by JETs, for JETs. It provides information and support to the 4,000+ JETs residing across Japan. National AJET provides services for JETs all around the country, and each prefecture has its own branch of AJET.

Fukuoka AJET (FAJET) is our branch of AJET. FAJET consists of a small committee of volunteer JETs who work hard to bring services and events to all ALTs and CIRs across Fukuoka Prefecture. You can meet the team here. Keep reading to find out what we get up to!

FAJET Bereavement Fund

The JET Bereavement Fund is a good faith fund for Fukuoka JETs who must return to their home country in the event of a family emergency or death. By becoming a member of this fund, a JET wishing to go home for a funeral, etc. may receive financial assistance towards the cost of their plane ticket upon presentation of proof. As of 2022, JET dependent spouses and partners are also eligible to join the fund. They would be responsible for submitting documents and paying enrollment and renewal costs separately. Due to potential stress on the fund, children are not eligible.

The joining cost is ¥3,200, and the yearly renewal cost is ¥1,500. Sign-ups for the Bereavement Fund typically take place around August-September with the arrival of new JETs. New JETs can sign up for this fund during Fukuoka Orientation or ALT meetings during the application period.

For Fukuoka ALTs, CIRs, and partners who joined the fund during the 2024 – 2025 JET Year, your coverage will end on September 30, 2025 or on your last official day as a JET Program participant, whichever comes first. If you have any questions or file a claim in the meantime, please get ahold of us at ajetinfukuoka@gmail.com.

Scholarship

FAJET manages a Study Abroad Scholarship for one lucky senior high school student each year. In 2023, we were able to send a student abroad for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional information, as well as application forms, can be found at the above link.

To raise funds for the scholarship, FAJET holds bake-sales at the ALT meetings and SDC. We also hold an annual Charity Concert in Fukuoka city.
