The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)

What is the JLPT?
The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is an exam held both in Japan and abroad to evaluate and certify the proficiency in Japanese of non-native speakers. It’s an internationally recognized qualification, often used to gauge a Japanese learner’s ability by potential educators and employers. It provides an effective way to motivate yourself to study during your stay in Japan, and is also a valuable addition to a resume or CV.
The test is held twice every year, on the first Sunday of July and December. Test sites are decided according to the address you provide in your application, but there are a number of locations around Fukuoka prefecture, so it is likely you will not have to travel far on the test day.
The Japanese Kanji Aptitude Test

What is the kanken?
The kanken tests kanji ability across 12 levels. Areas tested include ability to read and write kanji, knowing proper stroke order and radicals, and ability to use kanji properly in a sentence. Although developed for native Japanese speakers, this test can be a fun and interesting challenge for non-native Japanese learners, especially with the wide range of levels available. Testing fees vary by level (¥1000 for levels 8-10, ¥1500 for levels 5-7, ¥1800 for levels pre-2 through 4; the highest levels—2, pre-1, and 1—cost more).
The paper test is held three times every fiscal year (June, October, February) at several locations, while a computer-based test (CBT) may now also be taken on most days (Monday through Saturday) of the year at the Fukuoka International Academy in Koga City. Check here for more details.
The Business Japanese Proficiency Test

What is the BJT?
The BJT is a test that measures your communicative proficiency required in business settings, and your ability to understand and implement the Japanese language in order to cope appropriately with business issues. The BJT is only one test and is not divided into levels of difficulties. Instead, you receive a score from 0-800 and are evaluated on a scale of six levels from J5 to J1+.
The test is held twice a year (around June and November) within Japan, and Fukuoka is one of the test sites. The test can also be taken in certain countries in Asia. Visit the official site for more details.
